The Kosher Hogs….Our Story

I am proud to announce that the Kosher Hogs of New Mexico are officially a JMA Chapter!

Thank you to the Board of Directors and all the Chapters for welcoming us to the JMA. My name is Kevin Patruznick and I am a Founding Member and the Chapter President. Our story began about five years ago when a small group of friends would gather for rides, conversation and, of course, food! Somewhere along the way, the name Kosher Hogs came up and it stuck. We see it as both a lighthearted nod to our Jewish heritage as well as our geography (the movie Wild Hogs was filmed in nearby Madrid, NM). Interestingly, only one of our founding members, Scott Fliegel, rode a Harley Davidson. Scott passed away unexpectedly in September 2019 (may his memory always be for a blessing). Scott and I spoke several times about joining JMA and we are proud to fulfill that dream and carry on his legacy while helping the community. Part of our mission is to help support the local BBYO Chapter here in Albuquerque. All of us have children who are either alumni, current members or future members of BBYO. We have always supported BBYO thru events such as Hamantaschen baking/fundraising and J-Serve, but now we have an official way of linking our organizations. Another part of our mission is to be inclusive. As you can see by our logo, one of our founding members doesn’t ride a bike and that’s just fine! I did make a promise to Bob Cohen and Ian Abrams that we would NOT become a car club!

There are many beautiful places to ride in New Mexico. I believe our state is one of the best kept secrets in the country. One of our favorite routes starts thru Jemez Springs, past the Valles Caldera and on to Los Alamos (home of the Manhattan Project). From there we head towards Santa Fe and along the Turquoise Trail. There is usually a stop in Madrid before making the final stretch along the east side of the Sandia Mountains and back to Albuquerque via Old Route 66. We’ve also done rides to Taos and around The Enchanted Circle (Angel Fire, Eagles Nest, Red River, Arroyo Hondo) as well as to the central and southern parts of the State (Mountanair, Socorro, Pie Town, Silver City). There is never a shortage of breathtaking places to see in New Mexico.

Finally, I would like to introduce our other founding members: Dr. Daniel Levenson, Eric Maxon, Steven Vanetsky and Scott Fliegel. In addition, we have three new members: Eitan Sichel, Bryan Fliegel and Lorie Fliegel. We encourage you to come visit and ride with us when conditions allow. Once you experience the beauty, and green chile, you’ll understand why we are called the Land of Enchantment. L’Chaim, L’Chaim!
